If your teen, even on their best day, finds themselves preoccupied with past events or anxious about what the future may hold, it’s likely they are facing some feelings of anxiety. At Be Kind Counseling, we recognize that anxiety is a natural part of life, and we all encounter it at times. It can motivate us to prepare for important exams and keep us alert while walking through unfamiliar neighborhoods. There are moments when anxiety can provide a burst of energy or assist us in navigating challenging situations. One of our clients has described anxiety as “like a trusted sidekick,” illustrating how, in the scenarios mentioned, anxiety can actually be quite beneficial.

Anxiety manifests in various ways and doesn’t always present itself as a traditional anxiety disorder. At times, it may feel like a faint buzz that you encounter sporadically throughout your day; at other moments, it may prevent you from falling asleep for hours on end, and in some cases, it can be profoundly incapacitating.
When anxiety starts to overshadow the very issues that trigger it, it becomes evident that it has escalated beyond manageable levels. If anxiety is hindering you from pursuing your desires, leaving you preoccupied with concerns rather than living the fulfilling life you envision, it may be time to seek support.
Individuals grappling with anxiety often face a range of physical and emotional hurdles. You may encounter panic attacks—episodes where fear and helplessness engulf you, your heart races, and breathing becomes a struggle. Alternatively, you might experience stomach problems and tension headaches. Some individuals become so consumed by worry that they find it difficult to relax sufficiently to fall asleep.
If any of this sounds familiar from your conversations with your teen, and you don’t want them to keep dealing with their anxiety alone, therapy can help.
At Be Kind Counseling, we collaborate with our clients to gain insight into their anxiety and to cultivate alternative responses to it. The stress response, a universal sensation we experience in challenging situations, is a natural mechanism meant to protect us. Consequently, while anxiety cannot be completely cured, there are effective strategies for managing it—particularly when it arises in the absence of genuine threats and begins to interfere with daily life.
Numerous clients share that their experience at Be Kind Counseling has significantly enhanced their understanding of anxiety and their relationship with it. Clients engage in the exploration of the origins of their anxiety and the moments it began to manifest. Your therapist will aid in identifying specific triggers associated with your anxious feelings and facilitate the learning of various effective coping strategies to manage that anxiety.
